Bachelor (Undergraduate)
Course Registration and Class Attendance
- Each academic year consists of two semesters, and course registration is permitted only during the designated period according to the academic calendar.
- After the registration deadline, adding new courses is strictly prohibited.
- Registering for courses with schedule conflicts is allowed only with approval and official stamp from the academic department.
- During the add/drop period, a maximum of two courses may be added or dropped.
- Class attendance is mandatory. Absence beyond the permitted limit will result in a zero grade being recorded on the transcript and disqualification from the end-of-semester examination.
- For undergraduate students, such as those enrolled in MBBS programs, the standard course load per semester is 20.5 credits. Students with a GPA of 17 or higher are permitted to register for up to 24 credits.
- All student information, including semester course registration, recorded grades, and grade appeals, is accessible through the HAMAVA system at hamava.ajums.ac.ir.
Assessment and GPA Regulations
- The minimum passing grade for general and specialized courses is 10; in the physiopathology phase, the passing grade varies between 10 and 12, depending on the course type.
- If a student’s semester GPA falls below 11, the student is placed on academic probation and may register for no more than 14 credits in the following semester.
- Students on probation for three consecutive semesters or four non-consecutive semesters will be subject to academic dismissal according to ministerial regulations.
- Students who achieve a semester GPA of 17 or above are eligible for a one-time tuition discount of 30% during the entire program.
Comprehensive Medical Basic Sciences Examination
- Eligibility requires a cumulative GPA of 12 or higher in the Basic Sciences phase.
- Only students with a maximum of one outstanding course and a submitted written commitment may take the exam.
- Having more than one outstanding course results in ineligibility for the comprehensive exam.
Medical Absence Justification
To validate medical absences, the following must be submitted within 48 hours after the end of the medical leave:
- A medical leave certificate and supporting documents (e.g., hospitalization report, pharmacy receipt, radiology images).
- A referral letter obtained from the Education Office to visit the approved medical examiner.
- The validated certificate must be submitted to the Education Office.
Examination Regulations
- A valid exam entry card and student ID card are required for admission to the examination hall.
- Students must be present at least 15 minutes before the exam starts.
- Use of mobile phones, smart watches, AirPods, or any electronic devices during the exam is strictly prohibited and constitutes cheating.
- Make-up or repeated exams are not permitted under any circumstances.
Course Taken under Professor Supervision
- In the final semester of the Basic Sciences phase, students may request up to two theoretical courses to be taken as “Course Taken under Professor Supervision,” subject to approval by the academic council.
- Requests are only accepted for courses previously taken and failed or withdrawn.
- If the student fails the course under this scheme, the course must be retaken normally with class attendance.
- Requests must be submitted within one week after the final exam grades are officially posted.
Physiopathology Phase
- Class attendance is mandatory; absence from class or exams results in a grade of zero.
- Emergency course withdrawal is allowed only two days before the exam, provided the student has full class attendance and retains at least 12 credits.
- Progression to the clerkship stage with outstanding physiopathology courses is allowed only after successfully completing and passing all remaining courses; otherwise, clerkship credits will be considered null and void.
Comprehensive Pre-Internship Examination
- Eligibility requires completion of all basic, physiopathology, clerkship, general, elective, and floating courses.
- Failure to meet this requirement results in prohibition from sitting for the comprehensive exam.
Postgraduate
Program Definition
Postgraduate programs include Master’s and Ph.D. degrees.
Educational Structure
- Each academic year consists of two semesters. Students are required to register and select their courses within the announced deadlines each semester.
- Regular attendance in classes is mandatory. Absence beyond the permitted limit in any theoretical, practical, laboratory, workshop, or clinical course will result in a grade of zero for that course.
- Unexcused absence from an exam equals grade zero.
- Excused absence equals course withdrawal.
- The Graduate Council of the faculty/university is responsible for determining whether an absence is excused.
Credits and Grading
- Total credits for Master’s programs (with thesis): 28–32 credits, depending on the field.
- Prerequisite courses, if required by the academic department, must be completed in addition to the program credits.
- Thesis credit requirements:
- Master’s: 4–10 credits
- Ph.D.: 8–20 credits
- Research and thesis-related expenses for international students must be covered by the students themselves.
- Minimum passing grades for Core and elective courses are 14 out of 20, and for Prerequisite courses 12 out of 20.
- If a student receives a lower grade, the course must be repeated.
- A cumulative GPA of 18 or higher makes the student eligible for a 30% tuition scholarship for one semester, granted once during the entire program.
Duration of Study and Leave of Absence
- Maximum duration for Master’s programs is 3 years. In exceptional cases, one additional semester may be granted upon recommendation of the supervisor and approval of the Graduate Council.
- Students may take up to one semester of academic leave (excluding the first semester). Requests must be submitted to the International Education Office at least two weeks before the registration period begins. Leave is counted toward the study period unless the International Council approves it as non-counted.
- Pregnant students are allowed up to four semesters of leave, not counted toward the study period.
- Students with a valid and approved medical certificate may receive one semester of non-counted medical leave.
Language Regulations
Teaching and examinations for international students are conducted in English, in accordance with the International Students’ Bylaws.
