Introduction

The Physiology Research Center began its activities in 1996, unofficially, in parts of the Pharmacology department building of the Faculty of Medicine, by approving research proposals with minimal facilities.

The required laboratory animals (mice and rabbits) were obtained from the Pasteur Institute in Tehran and the Razi Institute in Hesarak, Karaj and transported to Ahvaz.

In the years 2004-2006, new and advanced physiological research equipment was purchased from inside and outside the country in the fields where their laboratories were active or in the process of being set up (neuroscience and behavior, electrophysiology, cardiology, isolated tissue and cells, and hormones) with financial assistance from the university’s educational and research departments.

In March 2006, with the efforts of the faculty, staff, and students, a basic permit was issued to establish the Physiology Research Center. Then, in 2010, it succeeded in obtaining the final approval of the country's research centers from the Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education.

• Neuroscience and behavior, common behavioral disorders in society, and studying the impact of environmental factors (Microdust and environmental pollution) on the nervous system in animal models
• Investigating the impact of environmental (Microdust and environmental pollution) and social factors on the cardiovascular, digestive, renal, and respiratory systems in animal models
• Investigating the impact of environmental (Microdust and environmental pollution) and chemicals on the hormonal and reproductive systems in animal models
