UI GreenMetric World University Ranking Report 2025
According to the announced results of the 2025 Green international university ranking, and considering the importance of the university’s position in global ranking systems, a comprehensive report has been prepared on the university’s current ranking status and the trend of its changes over the recent period. In this report, the university’s status has been analyzed based on the main indicators evaluated in this ranking system, including Setting and Infrastructure (SI), Energy and Climate Change (EC), Waste (WS), Water (WR), and Transportation (TR). In addition, by identifying strengths and weaknesses, practical recommendations have been proposed to improve performance in these areas.
The purpose of this report is to provide a clear overview of the university’s current position compared with other higher education institutions nationally and internationally, as well as to identify strengths and areas for improvement in order to enhance the university’s ranking in future evaluation cycles.
Introduction to the Green University Ranking System
The Green University Ranking generally refers to ranking systems that evaluate universities based on their performance in the areas of sustainability and environmental responsibility. These rankings assess universities’ policies and activities related to reducing environmental impacts, using renewable energy resources, providing environmental education, and conducting sustainability-related research.
One of the most well-known green university rankings is the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, which was established by Universitas Indonesia and is published annually. This ranking evaluates universities in the following areas:
- Setting and Infrastructure
- Energy and Climate Change
- Waste Management
- Water
- Transportation
- Education and Research related to environmental sustainability
Indicators and Weights in the Ranking System
In global university rankings based on green indicators (such as UI GreenMetric), each indicator is assigned a specific weight, with the total equaling 100 percent. Based on the updated framework, the weights of the indicators are as follows:
-
Setting and Infrastructure (SI) — 11%
Includes campus layout, green spaces, university facilities, and sustainable infrastructure planning.
-
Energy and Climate Change (EC) — 20%
Covers energy consumption, the use of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency policies, and greenhouse gas reduction.
-
Waste (WS) — 17%
Includes waste management strategies such as waste reduction, recycling, and proper waste separation.
-
Water (WR) — 11%
Focuses on water conservation policies, efficient water use, water recycling, and water management systems.
-
Transportation (TR) — 17%
Includes the use of public transportation, environmentally friendly vehicles, pedestrian facilities, and policies to reduce campus traffic and emissions.
-
Education and Research (ED) — 13%
Covers sustainability-related courses, academic programs, research projects, and environmental awareness activities.
-
Governance and Digitalization (GD) — 11%
Includes institutional governance, sustainability policies, digital transformation, and the use of digital technologies to improve environmental performance.
Total — 100%

In the 2025 UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences has achieved a global rank of 1070, with a total score of 4920. Among the evaluated indicators, Transportation (TR) recorded the highest score at 1237.5. This is followed by Setting and Infrastructure (SI) at 825, Waste Management (WS) at 775, Education and Research (ED) at 725, and Energy and Climate Change (EC) at 720. Water (WR), with a score of 637.5, represents the lowest indicator score among those recorded. These results demonstrate that while the university has performed significantly better in the area of transportation compared to other sectors, there is considerable potential for improvement in the Water and Energy and Climate Change indicators, which could help enhance the university’s overall standing in future ranking cycles.
