Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences (AJUMS) is one of the oldest universities in the world whose history dates back to 1700 years ago. Its name was taken from Gondishapur city in the Khuzestan Province in the Sassanid period. Established in 1955 and re‑incarnated from the ancient Academy of Gondishapur. AJUMS separated and fell under the Ministry of Health and Medical Education in 1986.

8 hospitals in Ahvaz, 20 more regionally, plus dozens of clinics. Organized into eight schools: Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Public Health, Allied Medical, Rehabilitation, Nursing & Midwifery, Bostan Nursing.

805 faculty members: 77 Full Professors, 160 Associates, 489 Assistants, 63 lecturers, 81 retired. Largest: Medicine (448), Dentistry (83). Eight among world’s top 1% (2022). 117 books, 11,642 papers, 5,808 research projects.

26 centers (Diabetes, Thalassemia, Cancer, Social Health, Nutrition, Infectious, Nanotech, Pain, Cardiovascular, Pharm Tech, Eye Inf., etc).
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
342 international students from Iraq, Pakistan, India, Syria, Afghanistan and Ghana in 16 fields. Most are studying Medicine.
