Thalassemia and Hemoglobinopathy Research Center

(In recent decades, the Khuzestan region has witnessed a growing prevalence of hematologic disorders, particularly thalassemia. In response to this urgent health challenge, the Thalassemia and Hemoglobinopathy Research Center was established at Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences, located within Shafa Hospital in Ahvaz. The primary goal of this center is to make a meaningful contribution to the well-being of patients suffering from these conditions through scientific research and innovation. By expanding the frontiers of knowledge in this field, the center aims to play a vital role in alleviating the burden of these diseases.

Founded in 2003 (1382 in the Iranian calendar), the center was officially granted permanent approval in 2013 (1392) for a period of five years. Since its inception, it has emerged as one of the leading hubs for research on thalassemia and hemoglobinopathies in Iran, with promising prospects for future growth and impact. The center is dedicated to conducting clinical and epidemiological studies, training future researchers, and fostering national and international collaborations to improve health services and outcomes related to these disorders.
