Given the industrial nature of Khuzestan Province and the emergence of various environmental pollutants that affecting the public health, the establishment of a dedicated research center focused on environmental studies became a necessity. In response, Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences — as the primary healthcare provider in the province — founded the Environmental Technologies Research Center in 2010, with official approval from the Ministry of Health and Medical Education. The center aims to conduct research across various environmental domains, addressing local and regional environmental challenges and their impact on community health.

The center possesses strong capabilities in monitoring and measuring a wide range of pollutants in water, soil, air, and wastewater. It is also actively involved in the development and application of advanced technologies for the treatment and removal of environmental contaminants. Additionally, the center conducts interdisciplinary research to investigate the relationship between environmental pollutants and human diseases, aiming to improve public health outcomes through environmental interventions.
